Its that time again...the dreaded assessment, so what have I been doing?
well...
Flickr
In this time I've joined a couple of groups which have provided a bit of inspiration for me, for uni and to encourage me to get my ass overseas next year...but I will say that flickr is one of my favourite tools now, as I have family and friends who live miles away and I can show them my work and what I've been up too. Of course I think my flickr photos are interesting, I wouldn't post them. I have had a few comments from people about them and have recently pushed my photos to a couple of groups to see what others who don't know me think of them. One of the bad things was the lack of community encouragement and comments from general mpi104 group members, and i know i am guilty, but the idea of posting a screen shot of the desktop on my beautiful G5 just to have something to say Ive done doesn't inspire me. Maybe constructive criticism of work would have been a better option! Or maybe it was just my photos that didn't get commented from MPI students. all in all though, ive gone beyond the MPI group and am defiantly starting to incorporate as a tool in my everyday Internet use.
Del.icio.us
At assessment #1 I did admit that I hadn't incorporated del.icio.us into my work flow as much as I could have, however increasingly I have found myself going there to find pages I remember that I liked, and tagging sites as I find them. Also trying to make it more interesting by tagging a wider range of sites.
Blogger
after looking at too many websites and bloggs to mention (but you can check out my screen shots on flickr) for aesthetically pleasing designs and working out that clean easy to read sites were the way to go, I changed my template and messed around with the colouring of it. I wanted it uncluttered like the post a secret blog, but easy to read and simple like the love website. With these things in mind I still wanted colour to emphasize important points, hence the use of red on the white background for titles. I am a fan of having the side bar on the left, and onnly having it on that side, I think the page appears less cluttered and is easier to read, and you don't have to go looking all over the shop for things like links, technorati, counters and profiles, you know they will be on that side or not there at all.
All in all I know that I have tried my best to become involved in the online communities I have become apart of. Making comments on other peoples pictures and bloggs, and saving links for other people.
So its just up to you if you agree if my interestingness is your interestingness Joh!
Goodluck to me!

who likes me...
I want to know how many people visit my blog, so I put a sitemeter on my blog, this is useful because i want to know how interesting I am, what sort of blog reader is interesting in me. Where they are from and how they found my site. I went with sitemeter because they were easy to find and use and a friend said they were good and send you weekly updates-which they do.
I have had 59 visitors, all from Australia except 2, 1 from Poland and one from Portugal. Interesting!
a few have been referred by google, and a couple from technorati, and even one from my del.ici.ous site but most are through the ma-ba metablog!
I guess the more interesting and the more posts about different things I put the wider variety of people I can expect.

technorati
oh technorati...what a confusing little time ive had trying to work you out...this has to be one of the worst explained websites there is, or maybe because i do everything on myspace now i am slightly retarded when it comes to any other site!oh dear-time to get away from myspace!
Aside from that little rant i think ive got it sorted.
So aside from being a "search engine for blogs" i think it provides an online community for like minds. My house mate was asking me what the point was for having a search engine for blogs, I told him that a lot of the sites that i use are actually blogs, for music lovers ect...blogs are not just people having a rant about their lives which he informed me that was good cause as if we care about other peoples lives- but thats the thing, he might not but someone else does. Aside from that technorati can bring people to your blog, by making them aware of it.
Technorati is a search engine for blogs, videos and photos, thats how it differs from google. Instead of getting a bunch of sponsored sites or information sites, it is blogs about what you have searched for. It also has the ability to save or "favorite" each blog you like so you can see the most recent post on each and keep up with them.
At this point in time my ranking is 846,558. Ranking is derived from the number of sources referencing my blog.
My authority is 6, this is determined by the number of unique links to my blog made within the last 180 days. so im pretty low down on the scale...i guess i need to add more interestingness to my blog!
Out of the top 100 blogs on technorati, i was bored looking at them, i found most of them soooo plain, but then most of them at the top were about news so i guess they have to be serious. they were easy to read, and navigate though which is good. Check out my screen shots and thoughts on the top 100 here.

If i say... do you say its aesthetically pleasing
Aesthetics is what each person finds visually pleasing. This is different for each person as their tastes will vary depending on personal influences.
As for the websites i like and dislike:
I love the soulwax website it is easy to navigate, while still creating enough interest to keep you occupied and online. each little piece expands out to give more information which i find more interesting that just scrolling down a page full of text! i like the use of black and white with simple burst of color, i think it works really well on this site. i also think that modular people website provides an interesting solution to the boring straight us and down websites that no longer catch my attention! It uses lots of basic bright colours and simple readable text which is unusual for modular-as they are all about being arty and cutting edge to the point where some of there text in their magazine i totally unreadable, and hurts you head to try-but this attracts the kiddies and makes the the coolest of the cool, so who am i to bag it out. The website is awesome though, informative, interesting and visual pleasing.
As for websites that need a helping hand aesthetically... Id have say..
the best website in the world is really very funny,i was crying from laughing so much, but also crying from the colour use...yellow and white text (especially the yellow) on black background, i had to squint to read it and even ten it was hurting my eyes. Its is boring set out...just heading, though when you go into each post there are pictures and different text colour, but even the text in there is badly coloured. It uses a sad off white slightly orange colour. Its just really ugly. it doesnt create much interest for people just browsing, but with 190,371,308 views...i guess attracting new viewers is not a huge priority.
The worst thing i have ever seen is this site aside from being a "jesus loving" site, which may be what some people like, but for me being told its jesus was or eternal hell isnt my idea of fun reading. And after seeing it i have only one thought- if jesus was so awesome maybe he would have given these people better skills at design. Instead he made them blind, and that is why this horrid bright, moving background was put on there..i cant tell you much else about it, i was too busy throwing up from looking at it for 2 seconds, but that should say it all!

XML&RSS=WTF
So i think after much brain struggling i may have this worked out....
XML stands for Extensible Markup Language and is used to aid in the structuring, storing and sending of data without being restricted by compatible information systems. Users can create any tags needed to describe their information.
RSS stands for Rich Site Summery, Really Simple Syndication or RDF Site Summary depending which format you are using. It shows you updated information on your favorite sites. It is important because it provides a fast way to keep up with your favorite blogs and websites, you don't need to join every page, and try to remember login detains for each one, and you don't need to visit each site individually to check for updates. To view the RSS feed you need software called a feed reader or aggregator.
I decided to go with Google reader, it wasn't a hard decision,i guess, i already have a Google account, i trust google, and it seemed much easier and more manageable with Google!

assessment time
ok so assessment is tomorrow and I am here to tell you about the interestingness i have bestowed upon you for this assessment as well as of course checking off all the things i had to do...
flickr
Flickr has become an important tool for me, for sharing photos with friends, its so much easier to send a link to my flickr account than to send all the photos by email, because of this I've been uploading and using titles and descriptions. At first the tags were hard to do because i was trying to think "what would everyone else put these under" then i remembered thats the beauty of tags-its for me to decided what i think they should be tagged as. I joined the MPI104 group and checked out peoples photos leaving comments on the ones i loved and adding favorites as i went. I even came across a couple of friends flickr accounts and added them as contacts as well as classmate.
del.icio.us
Del.icio.us was a lot harder for me to get used to using, i think because i haven't been using the internet as much as a should or as broadly as i should (myspace just traps me in its little world)so i was finding it hard to bookmark as i wasn't visiting anywhere new. I can see the advantage of it, and I'm sure when i get back into scanning the web for things it will make keeping good pages handy a lot easier. I think work wise it would be a good tool especially in the design industry by way of keeping inspirations on hand and easy to share with workmates. So i managed to save bookmarks, give them descriptions and tags that i feel work and are easy to navigate, i even managed to bundle some tags, which was a handy option as so much of what you bookmark is in groups. I networked and became fans of MPI104-2007 students.
Blogger
Good old blogging. While i find my blog interesting (because its about me-and who doesn't find themselves interesting?) there will always be those out there who don't, and thats in itself the beauty of a blog-you can find one on what your interested in..be that music, movies or just listening to someone having a rant...I think the hard thing about doing a blog for this class is knowing you lecturer and your class mates are going to read it. I put my favorite links in the sidebar-these are the pages i visit the most. I put the all important links to relevant info in my posts and photos when points needed to be made-otherwise it would just be me rambling-and thats boring. I commented others posts when i found i had something to say. I tried a few different templates...but the one i settled on i obviously liked the best..then i set about changing what i didn't like about it. I even added a counter-which hopefully will go up! In the end i actually enjoyed having my little soap box to shout from!
All in all I think i made my Flickr Del.icio.us and Blogger accounts as interesting as i could have. Hopefully my ever increasing skills will enable me to make them more interesting as the time goes on.

300
I went and saw 300 the other day and i have to say it was awesome, very gory and loud but visually it was amazing! I am not a fan of war movies they make me feel depressed that man kind is that power hungry and this movie was no exception-i felt really sad afterwards knowing that all that bloodshed had gone on. However they certainly made it watchable, the men were magnificent, the Queen was absolutely beautiful, the background was perfect. It was a visually stunning movie and i was left breathless after watching it. It seems inconceivable to me that someone is capable of doing that, of making something look that good, or real!
Aside from the amazing visuals for the movie i have to agree with David from At The Movies the film is lacking in actual story and what story there is gets lost by the battle field amongst the gore!
But it was nice to watch and its the first time Ive been to the movies in ages (damn being a poor uni student) so i cant complain too much...now does anyone have a freeze frame of those guys with the muscles???

Swearing, anger and ITM forums winge follows...
My lovely boyfriend is an ardent reader of the in the mix forums...and so i have been known to take a look at them from time to time...But i really should stop, every time i have a read them i am left feeling sad and confused...i don't get it-do these people have nothing better to do with there time than have a go at everyone else on the planet...seriously...
I had the "privilege" of being mentioned on the forums after field day this year-for being "kidnapped" by the loose cannons i was branded a "fuzzy princess who was there to look good and didn't care about the music"...and who was "too fucked off my face to know what hit me" when i was taped up.I am not a fuzzy princess although if i was that good looking i would probably parade around in skimpy clothes like they do...I was not fucked off my face..i hadn't even touched drugs or alcohol-i was excited that my favorite djs had got me up on stage!
the best thing happened to me today when reading in the mix..i found this guy who had obviously been feeling the way i did...this was his post...

I love it! So true...Its like everyone else on the forum was so busy thinking they are perfect and everything they do is better than what everyone else does..i mean god forbid you should stand out!
Fuck that-I want to stand out-AND i love the music..i have to travel 5 hours to go to any of these events so im going to enjoy it and im going to look good doing so!
I happen to think the modular kids/bang gangers are funny as... they provide much entertainment. If you were as K'ed of your heads as they are you'd be rude to-they dont even know what they are doing!
Some people get excited about the djs they love...im sorry but im not too cool to admit that getting up on stage with the cannons was a huge fucking highlight for me...so what!
Heres an idea...stop spending your time having a go at everyone and pay some attention to the music...
or even better just shut the fuck up...just let them be and stop judging people for being cool with there friends and having fun!

Harry Potter
I have to admit i am a huge fan of Harry Potter, i know it seems sad to be 24 and a big fan, but i blame the fact that i have such young sisters (15 and 12) and a very vivid imagination. I am both happy and sad to find that the latest and final book in the series is being released in July this year. What will I do if Harry dies,if evil wins...the good thing is i will still have the terrible movies to look forward to,you know the ones that always rip the book to pieces and leave out really important bits and have the kids who cant act...ok so i love them to, but really nothing beats a good book!

flickr
After using photobucket for as long as I've had my myspace which is a while...it was a big change to use flickr, I'm still getting used to where things are and how they work. The image quality is heaps better, and it is easier to upload lots of photos at once. I am now thinking of paying for the pro account as that seems even better again, and would make it easier to organise my photos as you can have more sets and in my book anything that makes life easier and more organised is a winner.
I uploaded a whole heaps of photos that I've taken and some that other people have taken. My favorite photo that i took would be this one
which i took for our grp223 assignment.
if you would like to check out more of my photos check them out at Tabbithas Flickr account and feel free to leave a comment to let me know what you think.

del.icio.us account
Aside from being able to see who is in our class once we are all linked on del.icio.us, i'll be able to see what everyone else is into. If there is anyone who likes the same music, sports, tv shows, movies ect ect as me.
This creates an online community and is valuble in finding and sharing information. There are sites that i may not yet know about that i will find really interesting...and there are sites that i know about that others may find interesting. In the end we create a web of awesome and interesting sites and information about eachother and the big wide world.
Here is a link to my fab del.icio.us account i hope it proves useful to someone!

Bloody Glands
This is my first blog for mpi104, i would have written sooner but i have been struck down, once again by a case of glandular fever this is quite shitty, as it means some times getting up and eating breakfast is enough to send me back to bed for 5 hours. I only have myself to blame though (...and i guess who ever the bastard was that gave it to me in the first place!) because i had such a massive O-week. I have missed the last 2 years of O-Weeks and decided to make up for them all on the monday night. I was especially excited because my coolest of the cool friend leggie was back in town to lose her licence, but she didnt...and so we celebrated with waaaaaaay too much alcohol. The sad thing was i had to work the next day, so too much of the evil stuff and a lack of sleep as well as working ment my poor little immune system decided to die on me...and hello gladular fever....hope everyone else is feeling better than me!
